Our weekend trip to Maryborough, attended by 18 members and some of their friends, went off almost without a hitch, however one member Steve, had a bit of trouble getting going early on Saturday morning. First of all his work ute would not start, which was blocking his '68 Charger, packed and ready to go (or so he thought).
Fellow members Glenn and Alan turned up and had to tow the ute out onto the street where it was left for the entire weekend.
Thinking that was his one piece of bad luck for the weekend, Steve set off to meet the rest of the gang at the BP Service Centre just north of Calder Park Raceway, only to get a flat tyre on the Tullamarine Fwy near Bell St. Pity about discovering that the spare was also flat, and would not have fit anyway. Fortunately along came another member Mark in his '69 Mustang, who kindly offered to take the flat to a nearby tyre place in Bell St, where it was promptly repaired and returned.
Those who met at the Service Centre left about 9.30am, so Steve and Mark were running about an hour late, but caught up with the rest at Rod Hadfield's near Castlemaine, and still managed to get a good look at everything on display.
After leaving Hadfield's we then headed to Maryborough for a BBQ lunch at our local member Mick's place, before visiting his panel shop to inspect some of the cars currently under restoration. After checking into our motel, it was then off to the nearby pub for a fun evening. Some members appeared to be having more fun than others and stayed on well into the night, and it was reported that one particular member, who shall remain nameless, was extremely over-refreshed, and had to be assisted back to the motel.
Sunday morning it was off to the grand old Maryborough Railway Station, which houses a very nice restaurant, where we enjoyed a fantastic cooked breakfast, before heading off around 11am. Most decided to head straight back to Melbourne but some folk ended up stopping off again in Castlemaine for some antique browsing.
The Club would once again like to thank our Maryborough members and hosts Mick and Leanne, for opening up their home to us and for putting on a great BBQ, and a special thank you to club member Ian Craven for organizing the accommodation and the visit to Rod Hadfield's shop.
